Secretary Blinken Visits Africa

Expresses concern over civil unrest and addresses infrastructure.

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken traveled to Africa for the first time this week. He expressed concerns over the unrest in several African nations, particularly the state responses to political protests. He stated, “We are deeply concerned about escalating violence, the expansion of fighting throughout the country and what we see as a growing risk to the unity of and integrity of the state.”

Secretary Blinken also addressed infrastructure on the continent, promising transparent and sustainable assistance from the U.S. While in Nigeria, the secretary of state said, “Too often, international infrastructure deals are opaque, coercive. They burden countries with unmanageable debt. They’re environmentally destructive. They don’t always benefit the people who actually live there. We will do things differently.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Secretary Blinken to seek God’s discernment in addressing issues in Africa.
  • For wisdom for the president and his administration as they offer assistance to foreign nations.
